PRHP Employees Volunteer for the NEAT program
On Tuesday, September 13 nine PRHP employees spent the day volunteering for the Northern Environmental Action Team (NEAT) at the Fort St. John Community Gardens through a United Way Day of Caring. PRHP built three garden sheds for the school garden programs, harvested and turned over the community garden beds, dropping off the food harvested at the Food Bank and the Women’s Resource Society, and cleaned up the school garden at Duncan Cran Elementary School!
PRHP and Rona donated materials for the sheds and PRHP on-site carpenters prepared the sheds for assembly.
The sheds will be used for NEAT’s Food Secure Kids program (watch this video to learn more!) This program teaches kids about food sustainability. This program is part of a larger initiative to improve Food Security in Fort St. John, where Food Bank use has doubled in the past year.
About the program:
“The more students learn about growing their own food, how to nurture plants, and harvest and preserve their produce, the more involved they become in the local food system. Although, northern communities may never break free of the grocery store, the more residents know about where their food comes from and what they can do to help improve the strength of the local food market, the healthier we will all be.”
PRHP is proud to support such a worthwhile program and to offer our employees an opportunity to give back in the community they live and work in.
