Major Project Milestone Achieved: Diversion Tunnel Breakthrough
On Saturday, June 22 at approximately 1:30pm, we reached a major project milestone at Site C: tunnel breakthrough on the first of 2 diversion tunnels on the left bank. Once complete, the tunnels will temporarily reroute a short section of the Peace River so we can build the dam across the river bed on dry land. Crews commenced tunnel excavation on August 22, 2018, and worked diligently to excavate over 60,000 cubic metres of rock.
Congratulations to the Tunnel Crews for this fantastic achievement! All the hard work, dedication, and perseverance helped deliver this milestone safely. Thank you as well to all the supporting teams both in the field and in the office for their contributions to this terrific result.
