Peace River Hydro Partners’ 1st Day of Christmas Giving

Peace River Hydro Partners’ 1st Day of Christmas Giving

$3,000 of South Peace Colony Turkeys for Fort St. John Salvation Army Food Bank

Fort St. John — December 1, 2020 — For the first day of the “12 Days of Giving” campaign, Peace River Hydro Partners partnered with South Peace Colony to give turkeys to the Fort St. John Salvation Army Food Bank. The Salvation Army offers services dedicated to the community, such as the Christmas Food Hamper program, emergency vouchers for the Thrift Store, and Food Hampers for families in need. The Salvation Army Food Bank provides non-perishable food items to members of the community facing hardship, especially around the holidays. PRHP hopes that the gift of South Peace Colony turkeys will give those in need a delicious meal.

Peace River Hydro Partners, a joint venture between ACCIONA and Samsung Renewable Energy Inc., holds the Main Civil Works Contract on BC Hydro’s Site C Clean Energy Project. PRHP takes great pride in contributing to communities within the Peace River region and has set out support criteria on their website. The three pillars serving as the foundation for gifting are children and youth, healthy families, and education.

Over the course of the next 11 days of December, PRHP will announce additional recipients.

Peace River Hydro Partners begins “12 Days of Giving” for Holiday Season

Fort St. John — November 30, 2020 — Peace River Hydro Partners will be kicking off its “12 Days of Giving” Christmas campaign on December 1, 2020. The campaign is focused on giving to several of the Peace Region’s non-profit charities, local youth athletic groups, libraries, and community outreach programs. Over the course of the first 12 days of December, PRHP will announce the recipients of each gift.
PRHP is proud to support the local community through three pillars: children and youth, healthy families, and education. PRHP actively acknowledges the many difficulties Peace Region communities are continuously facing in 2020 and wants to assist these communities by giving food items, hygienic supplies, clothing, gift cards, and funds to be used where needed.
“Investing in the region helps ensure a vibrant and dynamic future within the community, creating opportunities for people to improve their quality of life,” said Jamie Bodnarchuk, PRHP’s Communications Manager. “We believe that communities and families thrive when they have access to care programs and activities, and we are honored to offer our support. We are here not only to build a dam but also to build brighter futures for residents in the region.”

Milestone Achievement: Diversion Tunnels

PRHP has reached a new milestone on the Site C project with the completion of the two Peace River diversion tunnels. Four gate structures, located at the upstream and downstream entrances of both tunnels, have also been completed.

This work was completed during a period of scaled back activity on the project due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Since March 18, BC Hydro has prioritized work required to achieve river diversion in fall 2020.

The tunnels, located on the north bank of the river, are approximately 750 metres long and 11 metres in diameter. Beginning later this year, they will be used to reroute the Peace River around the dam site, allowing for the construction of the earthfill dam across the main river channel.

Excavations on the tunnels began in summer 2018 and were completed in late 2019. The tunnel lining process, which involved using a custom-built slip form to enable concrete to cure in a perfect circle, began in summer 2019 and was completed in May 2020.

CONGRATULATIONS to everyone for their hard work!
