Protecting the environment is a priority for Peace River Hydro Partners

As the main civil works contractor on the Site C Clean Energy Project, PRHP takes our commitment to the environment very seriously. We are committed to operating in a manner that minimizes pollution, noise, dust, and other environmental impacts.

It is our policy to conduct our business in an environmentally-responsible manner that protects the public, our employees, and the earth that we all share.

Our commitments are to:

  • Manage our operations so they comply with all applicable provincial and federal l laws and regulations, with an emphasis on pollution prevention, and minimizing environmental impacts
  • Develop and implement measures to ensure sustainable use, and conservation, of materials, resources and energy
  • Promote and develop awareness, leadership, and accountability with respect to environmental protection among all our employees and sub-contractors

Our principles are to:

  1. Make the environmental an integral part of our planning process
  2. Commit sufficient resources to implement effective environmental and sustainability programs
  3. Identify and evaluate potential environmental risks associated with our operations
  4. Develop and utilize safe job procedures and work practices to minimize risks related to the environment
  5. Educate employees to be accountable for environmental stewardship
  6. Ensure proper handling and disposal of all waste
  7. Evaluate, monitor and report our environmental performance through reviews and audits

How are we doing this?

  • PRHP develops and implements detailed environmental protection plans
  • Our environmental protection plans meet the stringent requirements set forth by federal and provincial regulators and BC Hydro
  • All employees and subcontractors are educated about the specific environmental requirements for each construction activity
  • A large team of PRHP’s Environmental Monitors conducts regular inspections of all construction activities and implements immediate corrective actions for any identified problems
  • We take great care not to disturb any active bird nests or wildlife dens by doing pre-construction surveys and providing safe buffer areas around each nest or den
  • We do not disturb any streams or ponds occupied by fish or amphibians until we are able to collect and relocate these creatures, in strict accordance with the applicable regulatory permit conditions
  • PRHP has a robust waste management program, which includes the recycling of products ranging from office paper to oily machine shop rags
