West Pine Quarry

In December 2016, PRHP mobilized to West Pine Quarry, which is approximately 75 km southwest of Chetwynd along Highway 97. We performed our first and only blast of the year on December 31. Blasting is now on hold at the quarry until April 2017 due to caribou migration in the area.

PRHP will utilize West Pine Quarry as its main source of permanent RIPRAP for construction of the Site C project. Production of the required RIPRAP and RIPRAP bedding material will require drilling, blasting and screening of processed material. PRHP will haul materials from the quarry to the Site C project via rail, as this will minimize traffic congestion along with dust and noise pollutants.

20170120_145037_resizedMitch Winterburn (pictured left), a foreman at West Pine Quarry, has been working for PRHP since August 2016. He grew up in Chetwynd only a few kilometres away from the quarry. After spending the last few years working away from home he is happy to be back living and working in Chetwynd, which will allow him to spend more time with his friends and family.

“I’m glad to be a part of the Site C Project and I am looking forward to the opportunities at PRHP. I’m also excited about the opportunities this project has offered to some of my friends and family members in Chetwynd.”

When he’s not working, Mitch enjoys snowmobiling, quadding and fishing – all things he can do from his backdoor at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains.
